Check out these Memorial Day Sales Going on Now

Monday, May 31st, 2010

memorial-day-savingsAlthough shopping can defeat the purpose of Memorial Day, many stores have taken advantage of the long holiday weekend to provide Memorial Day sales and deals.  While some of these Memorial Day deals are available only on Memorial Day, others are available in the days following the national holiday as well, to extend the savings – or perhaps out of respect for our fallen soldiers and those who wish to honor their memory instead of feeling obligated to use the day for shopping.  Here are some of my favorite Memorial Day deals that are available this year:

Jos. A. Bank – 40% off 2 shirts, ties, sportswear and dress pants, OR 50% off 3 items, OR 60% off 6 items.  If you need classy menswear (as I often do), this Memorial Day sale should not be missed (good today, May 31 only).

Gap – Save 25% off a purchase or $75 or more.  And since the Gap’s prices are so reasonable, you can probably get most of your summer wardrobe for $75…good on May 31 only.

Dick’s Sporting Goods – Take 20% off clearance items and 15% off all regularly priced items.  Extra savings on already reduced prices?  That’s a great idea for a Memorial Day sale!  Good on May 31 only.

Home Shopping Network – Take 60% off all clearance items.  If you’ve been mulling over a specific item, now is the time to get it.  The site does not mention when this Memorial Day deal expires, so don’t wait long.

HP – Save now on items from the Hewlett-Packard home and office store.  This Memorial Day sale is on until Tuesday, June 1.

Charlotte Russe - Buy 1 item, get the second 50% off.  This sale is available until June 2.

Finally, there are some chain stores that offer store-wide Memorial Day deals, without promoting a specific special offer.  If you’re in the market for new housewares, electronics, jewelry or clothing, you can check out some of these favorites – JC Penney, Kmart, Office Depot, Kohl’s and Children’s Place.

How to Get Free Stuff & Get 10 Free Samples by Mail

Frappuccino

Tired of having a mailbox filled with bills? It’s time to fill your mailbox with more free samples!  This week I’ve got a very eclectic mix of samples from free vitamins to free dinner plates…so get yours while supplies last!

  1. Free vitamins from Nature Made. Choose from Omega-3 Fish Oil tablets or CholestOff (a natural way to lower cholesterol).
  2. Free sample of Omega Greens.  This may not be exactly the same as free vitamins, but from what I gather, the idea is the same.  Omega Greens is a dietary supplement that is made with certified organic ingredients and is designed to boost your immune system, promote general health and increase your cardiovascular health.  Even if you’re skeptical, it’s a free sample, so in my book  it’s definitely worth a try!
  3. Free bag of popchips. Become a fan of popchips on Facebook and you can get a free bag of popchips (while supplies last).  And while you’re there, why not become a fan of Billy.com so that you can learn other tricks for how to get free stuff?
  4. Free 4-color pen.  I used to use one of these in high school, and I’m childishly excited about having another 4-color pen (especially a free one!).  This should be one of the most useful free samples by mail that I’ve gotten in a while!
  5. Free sample of Crest 3D Whitestrips. This free sample was gone and is now back…but it may end again soon, so you’d better get your free Crest Whitestrips by mail while you can!
  6. Free B1G1 Frappuccino at Barnes & Noble.  I must admit that a Frappuccino is one of my favorite drinks…but this B1G1 free coupon expires today (May 24th), so you’d better make time for a pitstop!
  7. Free Aveeno Nourish haircare sample.  Since I know you can’t resist free beauty products, I just had to include this on my list of this week’s best free samples.  What I love about it is that they let you choose from 3 options, so you can get a haircare product that is actually appropriate for your hair type.  Get yours while supplies last…
  8. Free Martha Stewart Grilling Cookbook.  This free printable cookbook is a bit slow to load, but the recipes look fantastic.  It’s definitely worth a peek, if not a print!
  9. Free dinner plate from Cafe Marsanne. This has got to be one of the coolest freebies I’ve seen in a while, if not ever.  Cafe Marsanne is sending out free dinner plates in honor of their anniversary.  I’ve broken so many plates that I’ll be happy to have a spare, even if it doesn’t match my set.  Sad, but true…

Get Free Stuff This Week!

Monday, May 17th, 2010

free-stuffReady to get free stuff during the week of May 17th? Don’t wait long to sign up for these great freebies, free product samples and other cool things, since they’ll be gone before you know it!

  1. Free Playtex Gentle Glide tampons. There is no stated expiration date on this freebie, but chances are good that it will end soon, so you might want to sign up now.  The offer is valid in the United States, Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico.
  2. Free mini-facial at Origins. The company runs this free facial promotion from time to time, and it’s definitely worth a stop by, as long as you call first to make an appointment).  You don’t get to keep any of the beauty samples, but you do get to try out lots of great Origins products.  And it’s totally free, as long as you can resist the urge to buy anything.
  3. Free Multicare toothpaste (or $1 off Burt’s Bees toothpaste coupon). If you love free product samples, you’ll love this cute little toothpaste sample.  It’s great for your travel bag or for keeping at your desk for a quick brush after lunch (does anyone do that besides me?).
  4. Free NicClean cleaning wipes. I don’t smoke, but I (unfortunately) know people who do, and I think this idea sounds genius.  And of course, I never say no to free product samples.  NicClean produces wipes that get nicotine stains off glass.  I wonder if they are also good for cleaning windows for non-smokers?
  5. Free Purex 3-in-1 sheets. I mentioned these laundry sheets a few weeks ago, but apparently they’re still available.  Sign up for this free stuff now, and you’ll get a free 2-pack.
  6. Free vegetable gardening guide. I’ve got 2 brown thumbs, but I can’t help wondering if this free gardening guide could change that.  You know I’ll be ordering it just to find out…I suggest you do the same, since I’ve heard that gardening is extremely therapeutic (and, of course, having your own produce can save you a fortune!).
  7. Free coupon book. Proctor & Gamble’s “Home Made Simple” program is giving away free coupon books containing $30 in P&G coupons.  Pair the coupons with in-store specials to save extra money.

6 More Freebies, by Popular Demand

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Since yesterday’s free samples by mail generated such a frenzy, I figured you’d want another chance to fill up your mailbox.  Once again, I’ve tested all of these freebies to make sure that they’re still available.  But I urge you to sign up now, as most of them are only good while supplies last!  Here are 6 more freebies that I hope will make you smile.  If you come across any others, please let me know!

    dove-freebie

  1. Free sample by mail of Dove Daily Treatment Conditioner. What’s great about this freebie is that you can choose from Intensive Repair or Daily Moisture.   It’s only a shame you can’t order both!
  2. Free pair of panties at Lane Bryant. Back by popular demand, Lane Bryant is once again giving away a free pair of panties.  This time, no coupon is required.  The offer is good until Wednesday, May 19th (or while supplies last, so head on over there now).
  3. Free sample of eb5 anti-aging face cream. It’s probably not a good idea to wait until you’ve got wrinkles to use anti-aging face cream…why not try eb5 for free and see if you like it?
  4. Free First Hug baby blanket. I’ve got to admit that I’m not quite sure what the novelty of this baby blanket is, but if you’re an expectant mother you might like it.  Or, if you know an expectant mother, pass this deal along.  Sorry, if you’re not pregnant, you don’t qualify for this freebie.  The good news is that you can choose between white, blue and pink baby blankets.
  5. Free digital subscription to Mothering Magazine. If you’re looking for interesting (and sometimes provocative) articles about parenting that you can share easily with your friends, you’ll love this free subscription to Mothering Magazine.
  6. Free museum entrance(s), courtesy of Target. Just one more reason why Target is one of my all-time favorite stores – they’re sponsoring free museum entrance and cultural events throughout the country.  Check for events in your area here.

Nothing is more fun than coming home to a mailbox filled with freebies. And if you’ve never ordered free samples by mail, now is the time, because there are so many great free samples that are available right now. These promotions usually expire when the stock is finished, so it’s best to order your free samples immediately, to prevent you from missing out on the giveaway. Here are some free samples by mail that I’ve confirmed are still available as of May 11, 2010.

  3. Free Odor Blocker body wash from Old Spice. I’ve never tried this particular product, but in general, I love the manly smell that Old Spice has. This is one freebie that I’m doubly excited about.
  4. Free Glowelle beauty drink. I’ve never heard of a beauty drink, but if it’s possible to maintain my flawless skin just by drinking, I’m all for that…since they’re offering free samples by mail, it’s definitely worth a try!

  7. Free sample of Touch of Happiness by Nivea. This freebie is sponsored by the Ellen DeGeneres show and you’ll be required to confirm your email address before the sample can be sent.

Great May Deals are Coming Your Way

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Yup, another month has flown by. Just like that, the spring is halfway over, and a new month is upon us. And you know what that means…there are lots of new May deals available. Because May is a month that is chock-full of untraditional holidays, there are a lot of great bargains to be found. Pay careful attention to the expiration date of holiday-based deals, as some May deals are extremely short-lived.

May 5th is Cinco de Mayo, a holiday which commemorates the Mexican’s victory over the French, but even if you’re not Mexican, I give you full permission to take advantage of the sales. Some notables:

    may-deals

  • Free shipping from Macys.com on orders over $99 when you use promo code FORMOM. (OK, you got me – this sale isn’t for Cinco de Mayo, but it does expire then!)
  • Get 20% off food and gourmet items at Barnes & Noble until May 5th.
  • May 9th is Mother’s Day…in case you needed a reason to appreciate your mother. Here are some great Mother’s Day deals and Mother’ Day sales – if you’re not sure what to get your mother, why not get something on sale?

  • Get a year’s subscription of Redbook or Ladies’ Home Journal for just $5.
  • Get a photo gift from Snapfish with 20% savings by using coupon code MOMSDAY10 by May 9th.
  • Get a photo on an 8×10 canvas for free (you pay only S&H) from Canvas People (this deal isn’t only for Mother’s Day, but it’s a great gift idea).
  • Get a free photo book from Hot Prints, and put in pictures of your family now or create a memory book of then-and-now. (Note that the free version of the photo book comes with advertisements, but your mom may not mind as they are easy to remove.)
  • FTD has flowers starting at only $19.99 (the price in itself isn’t a great deal), but you can get a free year’s subscription to Better Homes & Gardens, which can be nice if your mother is into that type of thing.
  • May 31st is Memorial Day, which commemorates US troops who died during their tour of military service. Although in some countries this day is a day of mourning, in America it’s a day for sales. You’ll find Memorial Day deals at department stores, restaurants and online stores, though only a handful have already been announced (stay tuned, I’ll be sure to clue you in!). Memorial Day is also a great time for May travel deals, as many people want to take advantage of the long weekend. It’s worthwhile to note that many May travel deals require advance booking, so don’t wait too long:

  • Hotel rooms in Puerto Vallarta starting at only $102/night.
  • Unbelievably low fares on Virgin America, which must be booked by May 3rd, but can be used for travel through June 20th.
  • Enjoy cheap cruise prices if you book in May with JetBlue.
  • If you ask me, there’s a reason it’s called the ‘month of May’. And that is because there just may be some of the best ways to save this month.
